Sumari:This research aims at testing the effectiveness of an air ionization device in limiting airborne transmission of the COVID-19. The device was firstly tested in a controlled environment and then in a public healthcare institution with COVID-19 confirmed cases. In the controlled environment several microorganisms (not including SARS-CoV-2) were disseminated, and markers were placed at different locations to verify the behavior under normal conditions and then under the influence of the device to compare the environmental load of microorganisms through the time. Similar approach was applied in the healthcare institution where the SARS-CoV-2 was firstly confirmed and then the device was placed. The results show that, in the controlled environment, the device effectively reduce the load of microorganisms up 98% in 1/6th of the time, while in the healthcare institution the viral load can be reduced in up to 80% in few minutes.
