As a consequence, the first ceased to be a matter of dogmas and traditions to become an issue on which anyone could offer an opinion if evidence is provided. Medicine, on the other hand, ceased considering body function as a tangle balance of fluids to adopt a system based on the functioning of organs. The rules of Cartesian reasoning, described in his famous Discourse on the Method, were embraced by doctors of the nineteenth century to configure the clinical method in use today. Hace cuatro siglos, el filósofo francés René Descartes tuvo una serie de sueños que tuvieron un impacto profundo en la ciencia y en la medicina. Como consecuencia, la primera dejó de ser materia de dogmas y tradiciones para transformarse en un asunto sobre el que cualquiera puede opinar si aporta pruebas. La medicina, por su parte, renunció a considerar la función corporal como un enredoso equilibrio de fluidos para adoptar un sistema basado en el funcionamiento de órganos. Las reglas del razonamiento cartesiano, descritas en su célebre Discurso del Método, fueron abrazadas por los médicos del siglo XIX para configurar el método clínico que hoy se emplea.
