Also, given the current health pandemic due to COVID-19, FAMA's call for action to guide artisanal miners on the path to economic reactivation. The pilot project is located southwest of the city of Hermosillo-Sonora, Mexico, in a mine called "Las Minitas", where the artisanal extraction of calcite (marble). With this project, FAMA joins the Sustainable Development Network for the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, a global initiative of the United Nations (UNO). Fortaleciendo a la Minería Artesanal Sostenible (FAMA), es un proyecto que busca el empoderamiento de los mineros artesanales para lograr eficientizar las prácticas de extracción responsable y de bajo impacto ambiental, brindando conocimiento transdisciplinario: geológico, minero, civil, medio ambiental y de seguridad, para incidir positivamente en la extracción y con ello implementar estrategias para el progreso. Además, ante la actual pandemia sanitaria por COVID-19, FAMA tiene como llamado de acción el orientar a los mineros artesanales en el camino a la reactivación económica. El proyecto piloto se ubica al sudoeste de la ciudad de Hermosillo-Sonora, México, en una cantera llamada “Las Minitas”, donde se realiza extracción de forma artesanal de calcita (marmolina). Con este proyecto, FAMA se suma a la Red de Desarrollo Sostenible para el cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de la Agenda 2030, una iniciativa global de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU).
