סיכום:The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the effect of ferulic acid (FA) supplementation on the productive performance and some of its metabolites in the urine of early weaning calves. 29 calves were randomly distributed in 4 pens (2 pens per treatment). Treatments: control and FA (10 ppm kg-1 live weight) for 30 days. Animal weights were recorded, urine samples were collected at the beginning and end of supplementation, and recorded feed intake daily. The excretion of metabolites in urine was determined by HPLC-DAD. FA did not show an effect on reproductive performance (p > 0.05). It was not find the presence of AF, trans-isoferulic or its conjugated in the urine, only excretion of hippuric acid (AH) increased in the group supplemented with AF (282.97µg/ml) compared to the control group (133µg/ml). The results suggest that FA could be excreted as HA, and accumulation of FA does not occur.
