Opis
Streszczenie:Garnierite is a hydrated silicate of magnesium and nickel, which is associated with deposits in the weathering zone of serpentinized ultramaphic rocks. In this work, analytical data (petrographic studies, X-R Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and spectroradiometry) are presented from a representative sample. The sample belongs to the serpentinized peridotites of Loma Caribe formation, in the central part of the Dominican Republic. Petrographically, sepiolite-falcondoite and chalcedony are identified. XRF analyses show high values of Ni, Cu, Fe. For XRD, garnierite and associated quartz are determined. Spectroradiometrically, stevensite, glaucophane, muscovite and magnesium illite are obtained. With this sample, it was also possible to demonstrate and present for the first time the spectral signature that identifies the garnierite mineral from Dominican Republic, providing new and more updated information on this mineral.
