The health authorities called for confinement, while the electoral ones promoted going to vote. What was the Mexicans response? What were the electoral lessons left by the pandemic? What solutions exist in the face of the contradiction of confinement and going out to vote? In order to answer these questions, it is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively the Mexican situation in the Latin American context and is evaluated the electronic voting solution available for Mexicans abroad. The results show that the electronic vote was successfully exercised and the conclusions outline its future challenges. Key words Confinement, elections, electronic voting, participation, protocols La pandemia Covid-19 afectó los procesos electorales. Las autoridades sanitarias exhortaban al confinamiento, mientras las electorales promovieron acudir a votar ¿Cuál fue la respuesta de los mexicanos?, ¿cuáles fueron las lecciones electorales que dejó la pandemia?, ¿qué soluciones existen ante la contradicción del confinamiento y salir a votar? Con el objetivo de responder estas preguntas, se analiza cualitativa y cuantitativamente la situación mexicana en el contexto latinoamericano y se evalúa como solución el voto electrónico a disposición de los mexicanos en el extranjero. Los resultados muestran que el voto electrónico se ejerció exitosamente y las conclusiones perfilan sus retos futuros.
