In the educational field, beliefs determine the action as well as the way in which the teacher performs his/her profession; this has an impact in the teaching – learning process. The objective of the current research is to identify the beliefs, purposes and actions in the teaching process considering a sample of 63 teachers from the Autonomous University of Zacatecas. The collected information through the Learning Perspectives Inventory (LPI) shows there are not statistically significant differences between the scores of the evaluated areas: beliefs, purposes and actions, that is why it was determined that teachers are reflective and coherent with their teacher performing, worried about their students and their emotions in contrast with the idea of previous years that considered the university teacher as a specialist of his/ her subject being this the only condition of being a teacher. El valor que el docente concede a sus creencias determina el significado que la educación tiene para él/ella. En el campo educativo, las creencias determinan la acción y forma en la cual el docente ejerce su profesión, al impactar, sin duda, en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. De esta manera, la presente investigación tiene como objetivo identificar las creencias, propósitos y acciones del proceso de enseñanza con una muestra de 63 docentes de la Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (UAZ). La información recabada con el Inventario de Perspectivas de Aprendizaje (IPA), muestra que no existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los puntajes obtenidos en las áreas evaluadas: creencias, propósitos y acciones; por lo tanto, se determina que son profesores reflexivos y coherentes con su actuar docente, preocupados por sus alumnos y sus emociones, en contraposición con la idea de años anteriores respecto al docente universitario como especialista de su materia, única condición de ser docente.
