Sumario:Identifying the carrying capacity of a destination or tourist attraction is essential for the planning and development of tourism activity focused on sustainability, mainly because it allows recognizing the number of visitors who must stay in the same place at the same time. Given the importance of the subject, this document aims to identify the critical points for the study of load capacity in the historic center of San Miguel de Allende, Gto. in order to recognize the potential problems that are generated through mass tourism and lack of planning. This research is divided into four stages, the first of which develops the conceptual framework of the carrying capacity, addressing various investigations and authors. Subsequently, it is carried out in a methodological framework, where the research design is specified. The third stage of the research corresponds to field work, obtaining the results and analyzing them. To finally reach the final reflections, where the importance of these studies is highlighted in order to develop an organized tourist activity. Finally, it is important to note that the text opens the door to offer new tourist routes that favor the centralization of the activity.
