The geographical area corresponding to Huatabampito beach has evident environmental problems. This work aims to (1) assess the level of pollution that predominates in the area, (2) rise environmental awareness in the native and tourist population of that area in order to decrease both littering and pollution, (3) promote the establishment of strategies that improve the environmental welfare. Through the use of qualitative research techniques such as surveys, questionnaires, and scorecards, this work gathers data related with pollution levels and the level of awareness in the visiting population. Results derived from the application of scorecards revealed an intermediate level of pollution, which agrees with the current level of development of Huatabampito beach; however, ecological awareness in tourists is low which leads to their little involvement in environmental rescue strategies. Results from our research include the proposal of a sustainability plan that considers environment, society, education and governments that, altogether, will contribute to better use the resources available at Huatabampito beach, considering the needs of future generations. La presente investigación surge debido a los problemas ecológicos observados en la playa Huatabampito, con el objetivo de analizar y conocer el nivel de contaminación que predomina en el lugar, además de generar conciencia en los habitantes y usuarios o turistas de la playa sobre su ecología y poder mejorarla sustentablemente, según la situación real que presente. Los instrumentos de investigación miden la contaminación, participación y perspectiva de los turistas, a través de una encuesta y una ficha de evaluación sobre la aptitud recreativa de la playa. Como resultado, se obtuvo un nivel medio de contaminación, ya que es una playa relativamente virgen, pero también se observa muy poca participación de los turistas en la sustentabilidad del lugar, falta de educación que estos tienen ya que son los que generan la mayoría de la contaminación en el lugar. Las propuestas son un plan de sustentabilidad que incluya el medio ambiente, la sociedad, la educación y los gobiernos, lo cual ayudara en gran medida con el aprovechamiento de los recursos de playa Huatabampito, sin perder de vista las necesidades de las generaciones futuras.
