To contribute to the understanding of female entrepreneurship at the national level, the characteristics of the companies, leadership styles, business management and the main barriers faced by women entrepreneurs in the Sonora tourism sector were identified, considering the 4 dimensions of the Gibb Dyer's (1993) theory of entrepreneurial career. 33 Sonoran businesswomen were surveyed, finding that their characteristics and those of their companies are related performance. The entrepreneurs have found in the tourism sector an excellent opportunity to undertake, without neglecting their other roles, such as being a mother and wife. Likewise, it can be concluded that personal elements present competitive advantages and opportunities for entrepreneurship, such as their high levels of education, age (30 to 50 years), and having support and appreciation from their family. The empowerment shown by women entrepreneurs is evident in their participation as main decision makers within their companies, this can empower them and inspire other women to assume a more dynamic role in their search for business opportunities within tourism. It is relevant to highlight the contribution of this research to a field that has not been studied much, such as that of female entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, given its addition to the reduction of poverty, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), especially those SDG 1 (End poverty), SDG 5 (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) and SDG 8 (Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all). |

Para contribuir al entendimiento del emprendimiento femenino a nivel nacional, se identificaron las características de las empresas, estilos de liderazgo, gestión empresarial y las principales barreras a las que se enfrentan las mujeres emprendedoras en el sector turístico de Sonora, considerando las 4 dimensiones de la teoría de Gibb Dyer (1993) sobre la carrera empresarial. Se encuestaron a 33 empresarias sonorenses, encontrando que sus características y las de sus empresas están relacionadas con su desempeño. Las emprendedoras han encontrado en el sector turismo una excelente oportunidad para emprender, sin descuidar sus otros roles, como ser madre y esposa. Así mismo, se puede concluir que los factores personales presentan ventajas competitivas y de oportunidad para el emprendimiento, como son sus altos niveles de escolaridad, la edad (de 30 a 50 años), y que cuentan con el apoyo y valoración por parte de su familia. El empoderamiento mostrado por las emprendedoras se evidencia en su participación como principales tomadoras de decisiones dentro de sus empresas, esto puede dotarlas de poder e inspirar a otras mujeres a asumir un rol más dinámico en su búsqueda de oportunidades en negocios dentro del turismo. Es relevante destacar la contribución de esta investigación a un campo poco estudiado como es el de las emprendedoras en el sector turismo, dados sus aportes a la reducción de la pobreza, y al logro de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), especialmente a los ODS 1 (Fin a la pobreza), 5 (Lograr la igualdad entre los géneros y empoderar a todas las mujeres y las niñas) y 8 (Promover el crecimiento económico inclusivo y sostenible, el empleo y el trabajo decente para todos).
