In this sense, a research it was conducted with the objective of analyzing the performance of principals of EMS institutions in southern Sonora during the health contingency. A methodology was use under the mixed research approach with a non-experimental research design, with a descriptive level of depth; in which principals and teachers of these institutions participated. The results indicate that school dropout, low academic performance, lack of technological resources and lack of communication were the main situations faced by principals during this period. For their part, teachers evaluated the performance of their principals with an 8.56 on a scale of 10. La pandemia ocasionada por el virus SARS-CoV 2 generó cambios significativos en el ámbito educativo; es por ello que, en el proceso de adaptación, el papel de los directores de los planteles educativos de Educación Media Superior (EMS) fue fundamental para dirigir el trabajo de los docentes y realizar las estrategias pertinentes para continuar con los procesos de formación a distancia. En este sentido, se realizó una investigación con el objetivo de analizar el desempeño de los directores de Instituciones de EMS del Sur de Sonora durante la contingencia sanitaria. Se utilizó una metodología bajo el enfoque de investigación mixta con un diseño de investigación no experimental, con un nivel de profundidad descriptivo; en el que participaron directores y docentes de estas instituciones. Los resultados señalan que el abandono escolar, el bajo rendimiento académico, la carencia de recursos tecnológicos y la falta de comunicación, fueron las principales situaciones que enfrentaron los directores durante este período. Por su parte, los docentes evaluaron el desempeño de sus directores con un 8.56 en una escala de 10.
