Objective: Assess the health of people with intellectual disabilities through the Roy Adaptation Model. Methodology: Non-experimental, cross-sectional descriptive quantitative study which evaluated 16 people with Intellectual Disability with an assessment guide based on the Roy Adaptation Model. Results: Within the physiological realm, the basic needs mainly affected were: nutrition, activity-rest, protection and to a lesser extent of affectation, the organs of senses and intestinal elimination. No evidence existed that the participants had their complete immunization, 62.5% presented dental plaque of over 30%, 75% presented poor eating habits, 43.7% had an inadequate body mass index, 25% referred to similar symptoms in regards to intestinal elimination, 31.2% develop inadequate physical activity, more than 50% needed help on self-care activities, 37.5% had problems with visual acuity, and 84.6% did not possess adequate knowledge in regards to prevention of accidents. Conclusions: Upon getting to know the health problems present within people with this disability, it is now fundamental to create specific care strategies according to their needs and provide them with quality attention focusing on looking for the measures that compensate the deficiency of trained personnel within this environment.

Introducción: Las personas con discapacidad intelectual requieren de atención específica para su cuidado en todas las etapas de su vida, sin embargo, los programas educativos de salud no abordan estas necesidades. Objetivo: Valorar el estado salud de las personas con discapacidad intelectual a la luz del Modelo de Adaptación de Roy. Metodología: Enfoque cuantitativo, no experimental, transversal descriptivo. Se valoró a 16 personas con Discapacidad Intelectual con una guía de valoración fundamentada en el Modelo de Adaptación de Roy. Resultados: En el Modo fisiológico, las necesidades básicas afectadas principalmente fueron: la nutrición, la actividad-descanso, la protección y en menor grado de afectación se encontraron los órganos de los sentidos y la eliminación. No existió evidencia de que los participantes tuvieran su esquema de vacunación completo, el 62.5% presentó placa dentobacteriana mayor al 30%, el 75% mostró mal patrón alimenticio, el 43.7% obtuvo un índice de masa corporal inadecuado, el 25% refirió sintomatología relacionada con la eliminación intestinal, el 31.2% desarrollan actividad física inadecuada, más del 50% necesitó apoyo en actividades de autocuidado, el 37.5% tenía problemas de agudeza visual, el 84.6% no posee adecuados conocimientos sobre prevención de accidentes. Conclusiones: Al conocer los problemas de salud que presentan las personas con esta discapacidad es fundamental crear estrategias de cuidado específicas según sus necesidades y proporcionarles así una atención de calidad haciendo hincapié en buscar medidas que compensen la deficiencia de profesionales capacitados en este ámbito. Introdução: Pessoas com deficiência intelectual exigem atenção específica para o seu cuidado em todas as fases da sua vida, no entanto, os programas de educação em saúde não atendem a essas necessidades. Objetivo: Avaliar o estado de saúde das pessoas com deficiência intelectual à luz do Modelo de Adaptação de Roy. Metodologia: Estudo transversal quantitativo, não experimental, descritivo, que valorizou 16 pessoas com Deficiência Intelectual com um guia de avaliação baseado no Modelo de Adaptação de Roy. Resultados: No modo fisiológico, as necessidades básicas afetadas principalmente foram: a utrição, a atividade-resto, a proteção e em menor grau de afetação os órgãos dos sentidos e a eliminação os órgãos dos sentidos e a eliminação. Não houve evidências de que os participantes tivessem seu esquema completo de vacinação, 62,5% apresentaram placa dentobacteriana maior que 30%, 75% apresentaram padrão nutricional pobre , 43,7% tinham índice de massa corporal inadequado, 25% relataram sintomas relacionados à eliminação intestinal, 31,2% realizam atividade física inadequada, mais de 50% necessitaram de apoio em atividades de auto cuidado, 37,5% tiveram problemas de acuidade visual, 84,6% não possuem conhecimento adequado sobre prevenção de acidentes. Conclusões: Conhecendo os problemas de saúde que as pessoas com deficiência intelectual agora é fundamental criar estratégias específicas de atendimento de acordo com suas necessidades e fornecer-lhes um atendimento de qualidade com ênfase na busca de medidas para compensar a deficiência de profissionais formados nesse campo.
