Water use efficiency and growth in squash by the use of polyacrylamide

A study was conducted on squad crop plants (Cucurbita pepo L.), with the aim of know their growth and development, as the water use efficiency by effect of the application of four rates of polyacrylamide (PAM; 0, 5, 10 y 20 g pot-1) mixed with substrate. During the study, consumption of water in eac...

During the study, consumption of water in each treatment was measured. At the end of the experiment, foliar area was measured, application of water, and the water use efficiency. The results shown that after twelve days of initiated the treatments, significantly differences were found between treatments by the use of irrigation water (P < 0.05); Treatments de 10 y 20 g of PAM pot-1, conserve high water quantity. However, as the PAM rates were increased, the irrigation water rates were lowered, thus in turn result in a major water use efficiency. In conclusion, with the PAM use is possible to reduce the water irrigation on squad crop plants, whereas crop growth is kept.
