Sumario:Somnolence is the interaction between the total “desire to be asleep” and “to be awake”. the subjective feeling of sleeping at one hour or in an inappropriate situation on daily time  affects the state of mind, damages interpersonal relationships, labor and academic performance. In a quantitative, descriptive and transversal study (research), the prevalence of somnolence in students of the Autonomous University of Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, was determined by using the EPWORTH scale (ESE). Age and gender of the different categories (weight, height, IMC, semester, somnolence levels) were compared by analyzing frequencies and simple correlations, identifying the differences, and ANCOVA analysis for the scores of the groups in the ESE. The Kolmogorov Smirnov test was applied for the normality of the data. the percentages in sleep disturbance prevailed normal somnolence (73.6%), being women (74.4%). excess weight had average and standard deviation of 15.60 ± 2.60 with excessive sleepiness. the results indicate that normal somnolence  was 73.6%, marginal somnolence 17.4% and excessive somnolence 9.1%. it is significant to diagnose and canalize cases of somnolence, considering the adverse effect of sleep deficit on students
